The function of the surface coating is to protect the fastener against corrosion or to provide a decorative finish, or both.


  • Electrochemical conversion coating resulting from an oxidizing chemical reaction with iron on the surface selectively forming magnetite (Fe3O4), the black oxide of iron, providing protection against corrosion.
  • Color: black or bright blue 


  • Cadmium plating offers an excellent corrosion resistance even at relatively low thickness and in salt atmospheres.
  • Standard: ASTM B 766
  • Color: White.

Chrome Plating

  • A finishing treatment using the electrolytic deposition of chromium. Bright chrome imparts a mirror-like finish to items such as metal furniture frames and automotive trim. Thicker deposits, are called hard chrome and are used in industrial equipment to reduce friction and wear.
  • Color: Bright white

Electrolytic Galvanized

  • A galvanization process in which a layer of zinc is bonded to steel in order to protect against corrosion. Compared to hot dip galvanizing, electroplated zinc offers significant advantages like lower thickness deposits to achieve comparable performance, broader conversion coating availability for increased performance and color options, brighter, more aesthetically appealing.
  • Standard: ASTM F2329
  • Color: White blue

Hot Dip Galvanized

  • It is the process of coating iron, steel or aluminium with a layer of zinc by immersing the metal in a bath of molten zinc at a temperature of around 860 °F (460 °C).
  • Standard: ASTM A-153 / A-153 M / F2329
  • Color: Light white
  • Xylan is generally used to reduce friction, improve wear resistance and for non-stick applications. Xylan is a trademark of the Whitford Corporation.
  • Color: Blue, green.

Zinc Chromate

  • Zinc Chromate is an agent that is added to certain coatings, providing superior corrosion resistance.
  • Standard: ASTM B 633
  • Color: Bright greenish-yellow.
